Default Fitting new sunroof seal

I decided to replace the sunroof seal on my 951, and while the job was basically quite straightforward, I now can't get the sunroof to sit flush.

The fit seems just a little too tight to enable the lifters to pull the roof down properly. Any tips for getting this right?

I was thinking of pouring hot water into the channel around the edge of the roof, to soften the rubber, then trying to shut it again. I'm a bit wary of tightening the clutch on the sunroof motor too much, as I've broken a couple of those little plastic gears in the past.

Many people have had this issue which is usually remedied over time when the sunroof seal has a chance to settle in with the panel pressure.

Perhaps a bit of silicon lube / spray, spread out on a rag ( quite away from the car, like maybe outside ) then a wipe down around the rubber areas making the contact ?

I am a bit hesitant on replacing the one on my older '84 from Las Vegas ( dried out and noisy ), that was replaced before I got it maybe a dozen years ago..... since I've heard so many problems with this. ( and VERY thankful for my Sunroof Delete special which will never require it ! )

Best wishes with the procedure; just don't strip those gears trying too hard to make it close.

Default Sun roof seal

Where did you get yours from, I found out the hard/ expensive way that there are more than one type of seal, and Only944.com was able to get me a well fitting one.

Good luck, Greg

Check to make sure the plastic receivers on the roof, that the lifting arms are connected to, aren't cracked. If they are, the lifting arms won't be able to close it tight enough with the new, thicker seal.

I used the Only944 seal combo. The body seal went on with ease. The sunroof panel seal was a little more trying. After allowing the seal to sit loosely around panel, I used a heat gun (on low heat and very short time) to heat rubber. Took some finger and hand strength, but went on nicely. Placed it in body and after 2 - 3 days was at proper seat height. I also converted it to manual at same time.

Hey Greg,

It was an eBay seller:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-9.../112637969064?

As far as I can tell it's the same, correct seal as some other online retailers sell. Fitted well, apart from the squeezing-the-whole-roof-assembly-back-into-place bit
