Classic movies! I am starting a collection of these kinda movies--the ones you can watch every time they are on TV-- on DVD. I already bought Office Space, Goodfellas, and the good Bond films (Connery), looking to buy:
Jaws
Fast Times
Risky Bus.
Animal House
And a few others...
Like Kevin pointed out, it's all about the illusion! I was watching some silly Kiss video (forgot the tune--late 80's), where some woman was pouring gasoline on a nice black 928. When she lit the gasoline up, you could obviously see they switched the car for a model, and blew the small model up!

On the 928 Movie Subject....
They also let Bigfoot run over a brand new 928 in Cannonball Run II. I was
reading "Hod Rod" magazine back when that movie came out and the
rednecks who ran that rag did a gleeful story on how that 928 was not only brand new, but had only 17 miles on it when crushed. They were also bitching because Porsche made the movie company buy the car because they found out what it was going to be used for. When Porsche was asked
to comment for the piece, their comment was something along the line of "You can do what you wish with the purchased car, but keep in mind, the only way Bigfoot would ever catch a 928 is if it was standing still like in the movie"
P.S. I vote for "The Beastmaster II", not because the movie was good, but because of the car Kari Wuhrer was driving.

I know a man in West TN with a 1983 5 speed 928 just like the one in Risky Business. Does anyone know the wherabouts of the car now? Maybe this question needs to be on the 928 forum.

The 928 is either a 1981 or a 1982.

I remember it saying 1983 in the credits. That's when I saw it in the movies. Could be an '82 928...depending on when during the year it was filmed, since the producers had to buy the cars fresh from a dealer.

I dated one of the Chandlers (Bigfoot family) in the 1990's and got to see home video of them crushing the 928. They parked the car over a speed bump so it would be more likely to crush spectacularly when the car folded from the weight. Well those german engineers make a heck of a strong car and it bent the hatch and knocked out a rear corner window. I think the frame got bent a bit, but in the end of the video it shows them hopping into the car and driving it away! Try that with a non-german car! Oh and Chandler family reunions were extra cool because they trucked Bigfoot to their HOUSE so all the kids could climb on it. Should have seen the rut Bob put in his yard driving (tearing) up his hill....

I was born in 1967, so the timing for Risky Business was perfect.
As far as the great movies of the '80's go, add to the list anything with John Cusak (e.g., Better off Dead, One Crazy Summer).
I believe Risky Business was filmed in 1982, so the 928 is probably an '81 or '82 model.

I remember reading some where the car in the movie was an 82 which you can tell by lack of spoilers and phonedial wheels, and the real clincher was in 82 there was a computer read out option that goes where the cassette box would be and if you look close in the car when Rebecca De Mornay hits the gear shift it has it. Also the car used in the lake scene was a 79 no motor if you look real close you can see under the front lip that it is empty.

Yes, definitely, the "U-Boot" was a different one than the one driven in the rest of the movie. I think the U-Boot did not have a sunroof either.
It's kind of weird how they try to make us believe one could fix a drowned car within a matter of days. I wonder how many kids tried this in the meantime...
How could you mention "Office Space"? It's one of my all time favorite movies. Not because it's funny, but because I've lived though or observed similar situations all too often during the boom in Silicon Valley.
BTW: Has anybody ever wondered why Dilbert was invented? I had a boss just like Dilbert's boss. Well, almost... He didn't have the pointed hair!
Matt H: Don't give up! They are out there...
