Default Car/Engine Status: Update

Well as some of you may remember at the begining of November i was forced to town my car home (while i was on my way home sadly) due to the frightening sound of metal on metal. I took my car to a locally recommended shop called CDI. They took a look at my engine and confirmed that i had spun a bearing as many of you had diagnosed for my car already. However they had a line on a 20,000 mile '86 951 engine, and they seemed to prefer going that route for time and money issues (cheaper + quicker than them doing a rebuild). So I agreed and they've been working on my car for alittle over 2 weeks. As of yesterday my father had stopped by the shop and told me the car was up on a lift and the engine bay was completly empty. Well i thought i'd make a stop by today and see how things were going. When i got there Scott who was at the desk told me i could go right in, shoot some photos and look at the progress. The new engine was in the car and a whole lot of extra parts were sitting on the floor next to the lift. (I'm getting all the old engine stuff back and plan on rebuilding it). So here are a couple of photos i took today (sorry for the lack of quality).

Was the crank toast? Anything else damaged? Swapping in a new engine seems a little extreme, but if they were able to get a new one at a really good price it might make sense I guess.

Has anyone ever had a bad crank built up and reground?

Dude, why complain! I'd be all over a 951 Engine Swap!!

Oh wait, he already had a 951. LOL

Either way, it sounds like a really decent shop. I hope I can find one
as nice when I can afford to upgrade my 924S.

I still have my heart set on a 951 Engine and some GTS Fiberglass on her!

Next time you visit the shop, see what mountain bike that is.
