Here's the funny thing about commercial octane boosters; they are crap! The toluene and zylene mentioned above ARE the active ingredients in most of the boosters on the market, the fine print on the package might say that the contents added to X gal of fuel will raise the octane up to 3 points. "Three points" means ".3" and "up to" means don't hold your breath. Toluene has an octane rating of 114, zylene is 117, there is no other magic ingredient that is so powerful that a few ounces can raise the octane of a 20 gallon tank of gas by more than a fraction (would you really want to carry the bottle if there was?), a little math goes a long way, this mythical "ingredient" would need to have an octane rating of 571!

Here's how I came up with that;
20 gal of 91 octane = 91 octane__ (20x91)/20=91
17 gal of 91 octane + 3 gal of toluene = 94.45 octane__(17x91)+(3x114)/20=94.45
19.875 gal of 91 octane + 1 pint of octane boost = ?
To meet the 3 point claim we want to arrive at 94, so
(19.875x91)+(.125x?)/20=94
I'm no math wiz, but I get 571....

Thanks everyone, I looked at the octane boosters right after I realized what I had done at the gas station. Seemed like bs to me so thanks Dave for doing the math. I will just fill up whenever I am 1/4 tank empty.
I remember reading Harry Pellow's book about Toluene and some guy who poured it in 356 with a full tank. It sank to the bottom and ate all the rubber seals!. Guess you are supposed to put it in an empty tank (which I can't do right now anyway) and immediately fill to mix it all up.
Anyway, I want to drive it slowly home and into the freaken driveway not launch it into the stratosphere!
Thanks,
Jon

Don't worry I don't lug my engines under any circumstances.

Your statement about the grit on the dipstick has been on my mind. If there is any grit shouldn't I drop the oil immediatly? Tell me what I don't know about grit on the dipstick.

Oh, I didn't get it last weekend, looks like this weekend 12/13 I will finally be driving my 944S.
