Default Reluctant Headlights

Hi All,

Occasionally my headlights get stuck up or down. Retoggling the switch or gentle pressure will usually convince them to cooperate. There's also a little squeak in the mechanism as they rise or fall.

Are there some lubrication points in that mechanism or do you think it's the switch? Anyone who has a picture to show me what to squirt where would be much appreciated! Thanks!

try pulling the relay on the motor assembly off and cleaning the contacts. not uncommon for this to cause the symptoms you describe.

I would suggest first making sure all the electrical connections are cleana as adie said. Double check grounds. Also, take a look throughout the mechanism and clean/lube all the moving points. It's amazing how much friction a couple of dry joints can have.

I second the relay suggestion but also think lubing up everything that moves is a great idea. When it happens again, try jiggling the relay and see if it makes them move, happens to me every so often.

When they get stuck, does the motor still run? In that case, either the bolt is too loose or the threads on the motor are stripped. But do put some wheel bearing greese on the joints of the assembly.

If the upper radiator hose clamp is installed incorrectly, it can also catch in the mechanism and cause the headlights to get stuck. Probably not the issue here, but I sure remember troubleshooting that one like it was yesterday . .

Make sure the coil wire does not get "strangled" in the mechanism.
This may result in nice sparks on the wrong location...
