Default My 1986 944 (NA) probably going up for sale.

Chances are improving that I will be purchasing a 1999 Boxster in the next couple of months (a long story in and of itself). If I do, then I do not think I will keep my 944. Buying the Boxster will put me at my financial limits, and even if I don't drive the 944 much, I will still have to pay to insure it, and (knowing myself) I will still want to spend money on it. So, if I buy the Boxster I will likely sell my 944.

Is anybody interested in buying???

Here are the basic details:

I want $3,500 for the car.

It just passed 180,000 miles.

See the link in my signature for pics.

I recently put new brake rotors and pad on the car, and I had a shop install new tie rod ends. The guy at the shop commented on how good the car looked underneath. Shocks are fairly new, ball joints are in good condition, CV joints in good shape, etc.

The engine runs strong. In the past year I have put on new plug wires (the expensive OEM kind), distributer cap, rotor. Cooling system, heating, and AC work well. The oil cooler was recently re-sealed.

Everything on the car works (sunroof, cruise, mirrors, etc.) with two minor exceptions: The MPG guage works intermittently. The voltmeter works intermittently. I know the Voltmeter is the problem, not the charging system, because when the meter reads low a handheld Voltmeter across the battery always shows ~14 Volts.

I bought the car with 113,000 miles, and I don't know much about its history before I bought it. Since I have owned the car it has been a daily driver, a weekender, and it is now again a daily driver. I have done one autocross, and I have done four days of DE at Summit Point. That is my only track time on the car.

I had the paint resprayed the original Garnet Red Metallic in the summer of 2002. The car has gotten a few small chips on the front end since. The interior is in very good shape. The driver's seat has two fairly small tears where the butt goes.

Some pics are on my web site, and I can post more as requested.

If anyone is interested, then we can talk more.

Cheers,

Mark

More info . . .

Water pump last replaced at 133,000 miles (8/31/98).
Timing belts last replaced at 144,000 miles (12/11/01). (The time between 133K and 144K is when the car was a weekender.)
Timing belts last adjusted at 161,000 (1/16/03).

The car has a Blaupunkt Honolulu CD deck, and I have replaced all four speakers with new Blaupunkt speakers within the last two years.

The car has Bridgestone Potenza RE950 tires that were put on the car at 157,700 miles (11/5/02). These tires have not been on the track.

Engine mounts were replaced at 156,600 miles.

Mark, 2 questions.

1. How do you like the "potenza RE950"s?"

2. Did your father used to be an Eastern Airlines pilot? New a
Hubley when I was a kid, friends of my parents, just wondering.

Thanks,
Bill

jjmson: For good or bad, the point is to get rid of a vehicle. My wife just bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma that she works out of, and we still have her 1994 Toyota pickup that has become our farm truck/trash hauler/beater. We also have a 1997 Chevy Suburban for hauling a horse trailer, and then there's the 944, which is currently my daily driver. If I buy the Boxster, then something has to give. Five vehicles for two adults is getting a bit out of control.

Bill: I am very happy with the RE950's. I have only used them on the street, but they stick very nicely. They seem to give as much grip as the Yokohama AVS Intermediates that I use on the track. I once pushed the 950's a bit past the limits of adhesion, and the car entered a lovely four-wheel drift that was very easily controlled. My car is a daily driver, and the 950's are much better in the rain than the Yoko's. There aren't many Hubleys around, but my father was never a pilot. He worked for Western Union in New York and later DC.

Regards to both,

Mark
