Default Porsche 944 Turbo Advice

Hi everyone, I have been in the Volkswagen scene for quite some time now and am considering making the move to a dedicated summer car and separate daily driver (truck) versus my single "fun" daily (GTI). That being said I have always been in love with the 944 turbos and have done quite the research on them over the years. I went and test drove this today and fell in love but before I let my emotions control my decision, I wanted to get some input. The car has a clean carfax, it is a 3 owner car the first 2 being brothers and the 3rd the current owner for the past 10 years. Lots of records for the life of the car and overall great shape minus infamous dash crack. It does have a mild Lindsey racing chip, timing belt done multiple times and waterpump, vacuum lines, clutch replacement etc. Everything works except for the A/C which doesn't bother me that much. The only thing that annoys me is the carbon fiber wrap that is on the sunroof and the headlights supposedly to hide the fiberglass cracks (thoughts). Supposedly the color Copenhagen Blue is also very rare. Here is the posting on Craigslist, I would love this forums input.

Well I decided to buy the car. I picked it up for $9500 and it has about 130k miles. Has only been driven about 30k in the past 10 years by the latest owner. It has an extensive maintenance record and my intuition said to buy. Let's hope I learn to fall in love with the 944 turbo as much as I have loved looking and dreaming for them in the past many years. Here are some photos from the other day when I test drove it. I am excited to get into the forums and continue to learn about these cars.

Congrats, looks like a solid car. My brother has a N/A 944 that color, it's a great color for sure. I have seen it on a few N/A cars over the years, but seems much less common on the turbos.

The only thing that annoys me is the carbon fiber wrap that is on the sunroof and the headlights supposedly to hide the fiberglass cracks (thoughts).
Seems odd, at least for the headlight covers. My sunroof is cracked as well, so I guess I can understand that. But the headlight covers are steel, so not sure what is going on there.

I'm pretty pumped, I go after work to pick it up today. The carbon fiber wrap at least on the headlight covers will be the first to go. Other than that I think it is a very solid car.

Before this one I almost checked one out in victor ny but I couldn't get over the terrible champagne color.

Congrats, that's a great looking car!

I've owned lots of different cars, and the 951 is one of my favorites. You'll have a lot of "best days" with it.

Thanks man! I actually live out in Lake View so I am in the southtowns and am pretty close. My wife was looking into the Niagara Region PCA and the car has a PCA sticker in the window already. We will most likely be joining. She found some cars and coffee events too, in fact I think one is this sunday down the road from me at someones house. This is all very strange but she seems to love the car too so I am not complaining. I am taking the car up to a Euro car get together this sunday though at the NY Beer Project in Lockport thrown by Dubs in the Buff. Stop out if you would like.

Dubbs in the Buff! There's a blast from the past for me, I used to go to Taffys all the time. I had a like 5 Sciroccos when I was younger, then Jetta TDI's that I hottrodded, and then got into the Audi Quattros, and then the Porsche's, Did you skip the Quattro Step in the natural evolution of owning German cars? LOL Does JJ still hang out with you guys? Anyhow, Check out the Niagrapca.org Schedule of events is on there, At the End of the month we are doing "Cars and Jet boats" Taking a spirited Drive to Niagara Falls (Lewiston) and Going on the Jet boats in the Lower Niagara. We also have The DE Events, If you enjoy Driving, and Driving fast, I highly recommend Going To Watkins Glen with the club You learn allot about your driving and the limits of your car. There is also a Detailing Clinic in Rochester that is coming up, I attended it once and it was VERY good, Tons of new Hi-tech products. Maybe Ill head out to the Cars and Coffee your way, Ill have my Silver 86, (The one in my avatar) ...
