Question pros and cons of an S2 tranny in my 951?

does anybody have one in their 951? how does it feel throughout the rpm band compared to a normal 951 tranny? i don't care about top speed as this is a street car. the tranny is about to be replaced and i'm thinking about having the shop put an S2 one in. what do you guys think?

I just got done putting one in mine (yesterday) and so far I really like it. It makes taking off from a stop much easier ( I don't feel like I'm slipping the clutch) and boost comes on sooner (at a lower MPH) and hit's harder. Overall I think it really increases the everyday fun factor and makes normal driving that much more fun.

Danno has a web page showing the differences in the gear ratios here.

Danno also has a page that gives all the information about the different transmissions here.

Some people say that the S2 trans isn't as strong as the turbo while others say it is. Personally, I tend to believe it's as strong (or close to the same strength as the turbos). The reason I think this, is because most people blow out the ring and pinions in N/A (and in turbos as well - weak link). The n/a uses a 9 tooth pinion gear (smaller teeth) while the turbo and S2 both use an 8 tooth pinion.

Anyway, I guess for me only time will tell.

You might want to try and post this on the turbo board as well, Ithink there are a few others running them as well.

Whew, I hate to re-open the debate on the contents of 951 engine cases, but...as far as I know, the S2 trannies are the same as the 951 units in terms of durability-related components. This would make sense given the S2's power output, which is of course closer to that of a 951 than a NA. So your info on the pinion seems to support that.
