Have you ever met anyone on a track that was going fast enough? I haven't.

But it was a full weight 928. My 944 has never been on a track.

So the Motul has a dry boiling point of something like 595F, where ATE is about 530F. The difference in price is about $1.50 per liter nowadays and someday soon I'll probably switch to Motul for that reason. Up until now I haven't had a boiling point issue with ATE and since they had both blue and amber I used them just for that reason. Now they don't.

Things change, and change gives me a hairball.

If you have to purchase a double quantity of "amber" to have enough supplies to have amber plus amber to add the dye to, why not just buy blue and amber quantities instead of double amber quantity + cost of dye...?
If you read back a bit, you'll find that the US Federal DOT (or whatever they call themselves these days) made it illegal to sell any brake fluid that wasn't yellow in the US. ATE no longer sells "Super Blue" for this reason.

It's a "you can't get there from here" sort of problem, and just one more example of Auntie Samantha (ex "Uncle Sam") wiping your chin and protecting you from yourself...

Hah hah, if we reach the point as a country where congress has as little problems that they take up disgruntled citizens case on brake fluid dye preferences, we'll be in good shape....!

On the other hand, they aint doin' much else.

What's your track? I run at Buttonwillow near Bakersfield CA but my favorite is Laguna Seca near Monterey. Since I live almost exactly between the two in Paso Robles I usually don't need to spend money on hotels Fridays, just Saturday nights. Generally a hotel in Bakersfield runs less than $400/night

I'll seriously think about switching to Motul now I have the dye hint from Glen and ATE isn't selling blue here anymore. Call me **** if you like, but I like to be absolutely certain I've flushed all the old fluid. I still waste fluid because I keep running it out for a bit after it changes color, but I know it changed color.

As Ripley said; "it's the only way to be sure."

PS: For O'donnell (Michael)

I have it on good authority (Amazon shipping) another 2 liters of fluid should show up at my front gate today sometime. I'll run the clutch travel test you asked about and report back ASAP.

Regards,

Yep. Isn't that special? I figure this should be sort of simple, a bit like not screwing around with my insurance? I mean really, what so hard about them not doing something? They seem naturally good at that?

OK, fluid delivered.

It turns out there were two pinholes in the clear plastic line on the Motive. I had to cut back about 5" of pipe to get rid of them. Now I know where the leak was. It's always challenging when you have to fix your tools before you can use them to fix the car.

There was no hydraulic play I could feel in the clutch (sorry Michael). There is a little mechanical free play within spec before hitting the hydraulics, but nothing that went away after the first use.

Thanks for the follow up. Mine just seems to have 2 distinct levels of resistance more than anything, it drives great so whatever.

Glad to see other Rush fans in here... Red Barchetta is my favorite driving song in my '83
