KYB inserts vs rebuilding original oil filled inserts?
So, I am into a complete restoration on my 87 924s. Doing the front end at the moment. Took the retaining nuts off the strut cartridge housings and found that they are the rebuildable type. I have read all the negative feedback regarding the KYB inserts and I am seriously considering sending the KYBs back and rebuilding the original inserts depending on what is involved. Is it just a matter of replacing the oil? How much oil goes in there? Most of the oil is gone as the original inserts are dead. Is there a seal that needs replacing? I can't find much info on rebuilding these. Tia

i dont think anybody rebuilds the actual strut insert "shock" (unless your car had the KONI shocks which you dont).
just replace the insert with Sachs/Boge.
KYB makes fine products, I have an excellent set on my Subaru (they were the OEM supplier, anyways), but i don't know how their 944 shocks hold up.

I put on my 1988 924S a complete set of SACHA shocks and the difference they made was very noticeable. They are OEMs as well and eventhough they are not M030 KONIs they are great for a sports drive

Johnny, if you're in Canada (your profile says Country of Origin is CA) you can order what you need from a variety of sources but for our cars I prefer iapcanada.com (no affiliation). You will have to call them for a price but it should be more than worth it.
