Default confused oil type

i recently bought this '88 924s and now i'm doing the oil change. porsche told me 15w40, local auto zone says 0w40, and forums of what people use in theirs averages to 20w50. the previous owner doesn't know squat.

so does it not really matter? it doesn't seem like it since porsche recommends a diesel oil. unconfuse my dilemma please.

For almost all temp ranges 20W50 is the recommended oil.
Porsche retroactively recommended a different grade but its more expensive stuff.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is available in Walmart 5 quarts for $27.00. You can't go wrong with that. Buy 2 because you need almost 6 quarts. You use the left overs to top it off when the oil level is 1 liter down after 500 miles.
