Thermo switch ? 2 prong or 3?
Can someone explain the difference between the three connector radiator thermo switch and the one with 2? I bought the three connector one and see that I only have two wires. What’s the difference? Will the three connector one I bought work? If so which wires do I connect to it?
Also I’m in hot Florida so which temperature switch should I get? There’s 70-75 and 80-85. What was the Porsche original temp??

the early model cars (through Feb 1985, square dash) got 2 prong.
later model (Feb 1985-1995 incl 968, oval dash) got 3 prong.
the fans are wired differently early vs late which is why the switches are different.

I have an 87
Weird part is I have an 87’ 924s so that should be three prong however I only have two wires connected. And the fan doesn’t run but if I turn the key to in and touch the two wires together it does run. So I ordered the two prong until I figure this out. My next quest was going to be what are the three connectors for? Which one of them is ground? The middle one? I guess I can look at a wiring diagram and try and figure it out.

Thanks Rocket. That’s the best explanation I’ve seen. Now I have to ask another question. How do I know which prong is ground and which one is high or low speed fan? If I have to guess I’d say the middle prong is ground like the throttle switch. I think my fans are probably stock so would they be low or high?

I got it installed
I have the new one in. It’s got two prongs. I also found a radiator hose with some cuts in it so I’m waiting on that to come in so I can fix it. Thanks for your help.
