Default Bumper color

I have owned my 73 914 1.7 since 93 and have decided to restore it to new condition. The rocker panels, bumpers, rear valance and front spoiler are
painted in matte black. Is this the original color or is there a paint code
that you may know of? Thanks in advance!

The '73 non-appearance group cars came with the black bumpers. All of them came with black rocker covers, and front and rear valances. I have always thought a nice improvement was to have the bumpers chromed as they came stock on the Appearance Group cars. I had a brand new '73 Appearance Group 2.0 and that was they way it was. Of course it had the black vinyl on the targa bar too and the center console, leather steering wheel and the rims your car has. Back in the '70's a lot of people painted the rims as yours are now. I did that to my '73 too. Today, if I buy another '73-'74, (and I hope to once my Six is done - shhhhh don't tell my wife!) I would finish the wheels as they left the factory. Good luck and have fun.

After a little more research, I'm quite certain the bumpers and rockers are satin black. Thanks for your help.

I have always liked the chrome bumpers better than the painted ones; gives the car a little bling. My '73 non-appearance group 2.0 does not have vinyl on the sail panels - that's probably why there is no rust in that area.

the black bumpers were painted mat or satin NOT flat black, and were painted with trim paint that had a flex agent in it, hence the orange peal like finish
