Default Oil choices

Hey guys!
I own a 1970 914-6 2.0L.
I have been using 15w-40 diesel oil. Is this bad?h I'm on top of oil changes with top brand filters. Bosch, Mann, mahle, beck arnley...
I'm thinking about going with diesel 5w-40 synthetic.
Should I go to a different oil? Mobil 1 15w-50? Mobil 1 v-twin 20w-50?

Oil choices is probably the most talked about and diverse subject on air cooled Porsche forums. Do a search on 914world and you'll find enough to thoroughly confuse you. I personally use Joe Gibbs DT50 in my 914-4. Expensive but it gives me peace of mind.

I'm with Bob,

20w-50 Brad Penn, plenty of zinc for those older flat tappet engines.

My mechanic recommended Castrol GT (Edge) 10W60. I followed his advice and so far happy with this.
