Default Rear view mirror fell off-what glue to use

Bumped the mirror with my helmet at an Autocross and knocked it off. The face you glue back does not have metal surface, it is black and I think plastic. The mirror kits say you need a metal surface to work.

Any suggestions?

You can mess round with store bought kits and take your chance. I took my car to a windshield/glass shop and they reattached it in 10 minutes and it never moved/fell off again. Cost me $20.

the problem with the glue is that it makes a permanent bond to the windshield and one would have to break the windshield to remove the mirror, also the stiffly sprung 914 will vibrate the mirror is the patch is not there to buffer the direct connection. Hence use a mirror patch, and follow the installation instructions of using a bit of weatherstrip adhesive around the perimeter to insulate the patch from the air. It will stay on much longer that way. Remember the top of the mirror head is four inches down from the bottom of the chrome surround
