914 FIRE>>>
Well, it pains me to post but I had bought a 914 last summer. Took it to a respected shop and had them completely rebuild the engine.
They told me to drive it for a thousand miles and bring it back for a tune up.
I was on a feeder road and it felt like it stalled. I then noticed some smoke coming from the back. The light turned green, I was just trying to get off the road during rush hour.
As I turned the corner I saw orange flames. Pulled over jumped out and had no idea what to do...
out of the blue out popped a mobile car detailer with pressure washer we proceeded to put out the flame.
Now in terms of the fire? I can only assume what happened. Awaiting for the final post mortem. From what I've read it's typically a fuel line that's come unattached or improperly connected? I assume becuase I was on the hill that another option might be the floats weren't set? Anyway it was completely devastating...
the next step was to get paint and interior done. Now I'm back to square one waiting for answeres. It was a blast to drive....
Just the weekend before I was able to get the car up to 90 on the highway. It was soo much fun!

Sorry to hear about that. Way back when my '71 still had the OEM FI, the car was sitting in Porsche Park at Road America probably around 1972, and when I went to start it the smell of gas was overpowering. Turned it off and thank God no one nearby was smoking, flipped open the engine lid and gas was EVERYWHERE- one fuel line had come off and with 30+ psi it was damned lucky it wasn't a BBQ.
Quickly bought a Halon extinguisher and have one in every car!!
Can't imagine just standing there watching the car burn- you were lucky it is not a total loss hopefully.
It may not be a Pinto, but you have to check fuel lines to be on the safe side!!
