Is this 914 even worth $800?
Found a 1973(?) 914 for $800 with what looks like the 2.0 engine. I don't know 914's that well (I had a 944 for 9 years...currently a 928 for 3 years) and have no idea if this is worth to rescue or let it die a slow undignified death.
Any thoughts? I hate to see this car get crushed or parted out and thought maybe someone out there might be interested. (South Texas)

Thanks for the info.
The floor pans are surprisingly in good condition...no rust or holes. I saw it without seats or carpet inside. The area below the battery box had a few holes as the picture shows...not horrific though.
I wish I had the space, funds, patience (and just enough crazy) to buy and restore it...I always loved the look of the 914.

11/73 would be a '74 and the 4 in the VIN (474-----) Bet it's a 1.7 or 1.8 and not a 2.0, especially with the steel wheels. No gas tank?? Parts car at best...

Yep...glad I passed on it now.
What a shame someone let it deteriorate so much...looks as though it ran as recent as 6 years ago (from window stickers)
Thanks for making me feel better that I didn't buy it for "rescue"

FYI; That car is definitely a 1.8 liter...not a 2.0! Picture #4 clearly shows the 1.8 air flow meter... It'll cost you $15K to make it into a $6K car.

Side shifter transaxle and shift linkage may make it worth something. Another friend and I bought a total rustbucket many years ago- all I wanted was the shift linkage and trannnie so I could put a side shifter on my '71. He got the rest of it thankfully!!
I remember my kids at the time being like 3 and 5 covering the thing in leaves and sliding down the windowshield and hood- they knew that was the only time they could do that! Should have taken a picture of that!

Parts car. The 1.8 1974 cars had those newly stylized steel wheels while I believe all the 2.0 cars came with the Fuchs 4-lug alloys. Things like the front bumper rubber are rare and in big demand.
I would use it to back up another car like a 1973 2.0--figured to be the best of the 914s.

if you had the time, space, and desire, it's worth way more in parts than $800.
I've found that people need the oddest things - few $$ here, few $$ there.
When we rebuilt Huey, we bought 2 chassis' for $500 each. I used all the parts I needed, and sold misc parts and stuff for about $1500 between the two. And that didn't include engines or transmissions...
In different transaction, I actually sold a 1.7 engine that I had no idea if it ran for $500.
I've probably sold $2000 worth of misc stuff from taking out all the 'useless' weight in Papa Smurf over the years....
