Hello - my original '71 914-6 will be going to Scotty B at : http://kahikocustoms.com/wordpress/?page_id=6

He is a regular on 914World.Com and knows these cars inside and out. He is in Richmond, VA so pretty close to you. My car is going to him from CA. After a bunch of research, I am confident my car will be in excellent hands. His website isn't much to look at but he knows these cars. Call and talk to him. Sadly, after my car was with Scotty for over 5 years and 2 months, I pulled my car and parts out and took them to another shop. If interested, you can see my 2 threads on 914World.Com. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=313869 and the first thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=188776 Consequently, I can't in good conscience recommend this shop to anyone.

Good luck regardless,
Michael

He must be good if your 6 is making a cross country trip.

Yeah, this was a difficult decision just because the car will go cross-country for work and I won't be able to see it but once in all likelihood. But the more research I did the more comfortable I became with Scotty doing the work. He is a perfectionist and that is what I wanted. Not gong for concourse (sp?) quality but pretty close to when it left the factory. As much as I will have in this car when it is done, I wanted to be 100% confident all of the body/rust/restoration was handled correctly so I could sleep at night and not worry about rust bubbles resurfacing 5 years later. It will cost me about $800 to get the car to him and probably double that to bring it home enclosed.

Please see my updated comments above regarding my car and this shop.

As an interesting aside, I am in on a group buy for a full set of steel GT flares going on at 914World.com just to have them. I do not believe they will go on my six though.
Just have Scotty take and send you lots of pictures, I'm sure it will look great when he is finished..

If you widen your search, Original Customs in Sonoma California is a restoration shop that does it all from engine build to rust repair. The shop has a Cellete bench so even twisted unibodies are not a problem. Mark DeBernardi loves 914's first but will work on pretty much anything you want to restore. I live in Reno but my three collector cars get their love there at the OC...
