Default Papa got a new engine!!

Our race car, Papa Smurf, got a new engine this week.

3.4 liter. 289 RWHP

Maiden voyage was the Carolinas PCA Club this weekend. It took me a little while to get used to all the power (previous engine had 168 RWHP) but once I did....WOW! For a little while, I was able to keep up with the cup cars!! I now run GT3R.

However..I had brake issues, linkage issues, throttle cable issues....issue issues... you name it, something went wrong. But...when all was good, it was a blast!

Congrats! What size was the GT5 motor? mmm.. hp and tq to spare.. I'd imagine it took some time to readjust to the "new" car.

The GT5 motor was 2.2, 170 rwhp.
Actually, it wasnt as bad as I thought once I got good tires. However, I know I'm not driving it to its potential because I only dropped 4 sec/lap from my May lap times with the old engine.

I wish. I'm an idiot.... I ran out and got a new GoPro and realized I had no way to mount it on my roll bar. Tried the inside windshield on the pass side, but then realized I couldn't remember how to get t to record. And i couldnt reach it buckled in....I never took the time to figure it out, so no video.

I really wish I had it, the enduro was fun until the throttle cable disconnected. I was keeping close to the cup cars for 5-7 laps!!

What are you doing (or did you do) with the old motor?

Selling it off all as parts. It's completely dissasembled right now. Once I get everything sorted out, I'll post it all here and on 914world. The big things are the cams (2 sets), P&C's, original 914/6 engine case, ported heads, crank, MSD ignition, etc. No carbs - they've been sold already...

I could sell it all as a package, or in pieces. I'll list them both ways. Haven't sold anything but the carbs yet.

Wing....yeah, that's the next step. now that we have power, we need grip.
Don't know yet. It's been suggested to get a 996 cup wing. we'll see when I get there....

The funny thing is our 'street' 914 has a 3.2, and I felt it was quicker than our race car... Now...not so much...

Whos got the 3.6 car from Charleston?

Gordon King built one a few years back. IIRC, Autometrics did the work, car was red.
Cars come and go with Gordon so he may not have it anymore. I do know of a 911 project he is currently working on.
