I spoke with George and he confirmed he still has the 914-6 Sporto in his "collection". I asked and of course it's not for sale. So this project will most likely be converting one. Frankly, I'd hate to convert a real 914-6 as I'm a big advocate of maintaining originality with rare or unique cars, so perhaps my path will be a double conversion.....914 to 914-6, then 914-6 to Sporto. Surely no one would object to that.

No worries, if George has it you don't want it. (long story)

I agree that if possible, you shold find a solid old early 1.7 and convert that instead.

It was the August 2006 issue. Back issues are still available. Some of the info on sportomatic.org appearsalmost verbatim from there.
