what are 1.7L 914's worth
What is a 1.7L 5-Speed 914 worth. 75K miles, good condition in need of minor restoration?
I'm looking at a White/Black 914 i may be interested in. Car has a weber carb set-up. A friend of a friends isnt selling it, but doesnt want the car either. He is the 2nd owner.
What is a decent offer to make on the car? I should be getting pictures emailed to me later today.

all depends, if I'm selling it, it's worth a lot. If I'm buying it, it's worth nothing...
As Matt indicated, the value is in the details of what needs to be done and what you're willing to do.
Also, what could look like a really nice car could have irrepairable rust in it. Minor parts are easy, it's the chassis you need to be worried about.
find out these things, among many others:
does it run
does it shift well
check the suspension points for rust
check rockers inside and out for rust
check behind the seats where the floor meets the fire wall for rust
check under the battery tray for rust
rear trunk area for rust
condtion of interior
check out all the seams, are they straight? does the window seal pretty well? doors/deck lids open and close smoothly?
If all of the above are positive, then it's a pretty decent car.

All depends on condition of the body- the engine can easily be "hopped up." Adding a side shifter etc isn't cheap but if the body is clean the other stuff is fun to do in pieces. I've been doing it now to the same car for 38 years and it started out as a 1.7 many moons ago... get it up on a rack and really look it over- if serious I'd take off the rockers to inspect the longitudionals and jack points, etc. Battery tray and area underneath should tell you a lot. I'm lucky enough to have my original battery box but then I was **** about the car way back when... now you've got me excited as mine has been put away for the winter but with weather finally improving and the salt on the roads gone, gonna get it out for a ride tomorrow!!
