Default 1975 914 2.0 red 55,000 miles

Ok, I found this here in florida in a little no-where town, as you can see from my signature I love to collect porsches, anyway, what do you think it might be worth, I came over here because I figured you guys and girls might have an idea, the body looks good and the carpet looks new too, well not really used,
thanks Jeff

Rust is the important thing here. Have you checked all of the spots where rust can happen? Can we see some pics?
Bruce Anderson just put out a new market update in Excellence this month. Look there!

I've been looking a little for a 914 lately, my .02 - no rust, working FI, decent paint, not needing much or anything mechanically, I would guess 3.9-5.5k from what I've seen. less might be a deal, but I've seen a lot of nice cars go north of 6 also. 55k is low miles, so guessing they want a premium for that. When I find a nice blue, orange, or white one in this price range, I'm ready to put a 914 in the collection myself! Good luck, pics please!

John,
If it is all of the things you suggested it would be closer to 10K (sadly). 914s are quickly becoming a non-affordable Porsche!

You're right, it seems rust and neglect have made the nice examples few and far between. But I do feel the pricing is all over the place right now, I missed a nice local example around here for $2900 and passed on a cherry one for 8000, just wrong color. It becomes kind of a moot point to me to get too worried about purchase price anymore, as I've spent more on seats and wheels than most of these cars values right now. In the long run, value is a relative term - buy what you really want the first time! I personally wouldn't get to hung up on trying to get what others tell me is a deal or not. But you're definitely right, the nice examples are much closer to 10 than not. Boy, and I thought I could wait until spring for one, now you guys have me thinking how to shoehorn one in the garage this winter!

They really don't take up much room... You could always tilt it up on its side!

How are the "danger" areas on the car? Rockers, battery tray, trunks, etc.?

You know about the trick of taking the roof off and seeing how well the doors close?

With the roof off, you can always lift up one side at the rear jack point and see if the windshield pillar moves away from the sail window.

Does it have stainless heat exchangers?

I call it the Fat Man Test (or the Matt Romanowski Test). Put a heavy person in the car and take the roof off, if the door opens fine without rubbing then it is probably a solid car in the floors.

I see those new MB ads where they say a 300lb man can sit on the open door and it will hold them... imagine that in a new 914!! My silver one is a '71 without the inner crash beam- I weight 160 and would NEVER try it! Luckily mine will pass the 'fat man" test. Secret is to own the car from day one and never letting it rust in the first place!!!
