Value actually increasing?

Once you get past the auction inflated price, I think it is becoming quite common for the desirable, well presented 2.0l cars to be $10K or more. This then pushes the values around for all other models and makes the "average" ones seem even less appealing. It would take one heck of a "non" 2.0l 4 to break $10K imho.

Nice to see but since mine will never be for sale it doesn't matter... it is nice to see more traffic in the 914 forum here at rennlist lately though!
As time goes on I think a lot of real Porsche fanatics will want a nice 914 in their stable- a far cry from when they first came out and many of the "faithful" didn't even want them in the PCA!

I'm with skl. I've had many opportunities to sell the car, I just couldn't get myself to do it. It's my first car you see. Even a few years ago before the engine was redone, and there were speaker holes in the door panels and the paint was all screwed up people were interested. Of course, a few years ago a six would "only" get 10-15k

I had a sweet (well presented) 74 1.8l and it was a nice ride. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I think they'll get more popular and collectible too.
Just the other day I was filling up with gas and no less than three people (and family members) came over in a matter of five minutes telling me how they had a 914 and wished they had another one or some such story all the while complementing my car and how cool it was.
They were patting me on my back and shaking my hand and all sorts of wacky stuff like I represented, through the car, some connection to a long lost friend.
I almost cried, *sniff*snifff*

Olav, I had a similar thing happen the other day. A guy in my neighborhood saw me driving mine around -- followed me home and proceeded to tell me how that's always been his dream car -- and someday he hopes to step up to one from his Fiat X-19!

I think all models will rise with the tide. In a few more years, it will be an oddity to have an original engine and car. I realize that some people will pay more for a completely original car, but I would certainly pay more for a car with a 2270 over a car with a stock rebuild. (equal quality)
I think a 1.8 1974 914-4 will just become a 1975 914.

I found one that is down to the body restored-no paint- with 2 2liter motors one with webbers one fuel injected and I want to rebuild it with my sons. When I finish that I want to do a 73 RSR clone. I was in a Porsche engine shop in San Diego on friday and he had all these perfect RSR clone motors he had built-I really got the urge
but the 914 is first.
The problem with the GT3 is -its perfect- no work needed just driving.

Oldguy- I loved my 996 GT3- probably will get a 997 GT3 in a couple years. Sold the GT3 because I was afraid I'd either end up in jail (couldn't drive that car slow!) or dead... just listening to that engine was heaven. I'll always have the 914 because it was my first car and after 36+ years together, we won't part ways...

This GT3 is the best car ever.

I'm working on it, trust me.
However, being the non-mechanical type, it has to be a 'turn key' 914....therein lies my problem I believe.
Much happier writing a check than wrenching on a car.
