Coolest car of century--its a phantom (OT)
While looking for a 1946 car called the Rocket, I stumbled on a real Buck Rogers /Flash Gordon machine. Since I'm an easterner and its been decades on the left coast, maybe all you California car types knew about it so long that you just don't bother to talk about it. It's at the old Harrah's, in Reno, now the National Automobile Museum, so some of you must have seen it. For anyone who hasn't, it's the Phantom Corsair, built as a prototype but never put into production, used in a 1938 Hollywood film, and shown at the NY World's fair in '39 as the "Car of the Future". Check out the site, and its links; awesome wheels. http://www.flyingwombat.com/flyingwombat/index.html
And for a peek at the much less rocket-like aluminum car named the Rocket, at the Lane Motor Museum of prototype autos in Nashville, check out the Hewson Rocket: http://www.lanemotormuseum.org/restoration.htm .
If anyone knows any other really great car collections, please post them before we plan out out the summer's driving! I know about a mini-car museum somewhere in S. Carolina, I think, or GA--lots of fun little cars. And yeah, I know Indy has a great racing collection at the Speedway. But if you know any other cool collections, please share them. -Chris
