Default 914 value

I have a 964 C2, so I am not too familier with the 914. I am looking at buying one for autocross and have come across a 1975 914. It is a garage queen with only 8000 miles. I have not seen it yet as have only been told about it. The husband died and the wife wants to sell. I want to make a fair offer. I don't know yet if it is a 914 or 914-6. I am sure it is in tip top shape. Any idea on its value would be appreciated.

That sounds like quite a find.
If it's stock, it would be a either a 1.8 or 2.0 four cylinder.
I would guess it would be worth 10K +.
Might be a good idea to get a PPI or have someone familar with 914's check-it out, because even with low mileage, stuff can happen over the years.
Goodluck.

That car will probably take a lot of money to get going right. With only 8,000 miles, expect to rebuild all of the brakes, replace the lines, expect engine leaks. Probably vacuum leaks, etc. Things dry out and start to fail from non-use.

Need to know if it's a six of a four to get an idea of value. Also need to know the condition (still check for rust in all the usual places).

Just because of the low miles doesn't mean it won't have problems. Personally I would rather find a car that has been driven and used then one that sits alot. You'll need to find some more info and post some pics if you really want some good advice.

If it's a '75 it's not a 6- dreamer! Agree on the non use issues. The gas will be the consistency of jelly ,etc, but if the body is in good shape it's worth the hassle.

Paying a lot of money for a good body is mostly worth it in the end. Just don't go crazy with $$$$.

I now have more details on the 914. It is a 1970 914-6 with less than 15,000 miles on it. Dennis Frick a local classic car guy (German Classic Cars) specializing in Porsches, appraised the car at $40,000 in 2004. He inspected the car in detail. There is no rust and is mechanically sound. Everything is original. The previous owner showed it at Concours. Don't know what if anything it won. I have not seen the car and got this info from the neighbor of the wife. The owner recently died. The chasis number is 9140432506. Manheim Gold Book Classic cars show the value at between $31,000 in excellent condition to $37,000 in show condition. It is not really what I am looking for as I would not autocross a rare car in this condition. Some of you may be interested. If so let me know as I can contact the owner. The car is in York, PA.

I wouldn't be interested in the car personally since it is mainly a show car. If your not planning on showing it, I wouldn't spend that money on it. I think you should go see it and then get some pics for us to see. Also, what is he asking? - Jay

I'm glad to hear that you're not going to autocross a 914-6! At this point in the 914 world there just aren't enough unmessed with 914-6s going around. Find yourself a 1973 914S (with 2 litre engine) for the optimal autocrosser and let a councours guy buy this one. I'd love to have an original 914-6!

I have used my original 914/6 in stock form for a season of slaloms. (slaloms = autocross). It was not competitive but it was great fun.

The car loved it - but I didn't change anything. It's still stock.

There aren't many good '73 914 2L left either. Find a early 1.7 that has had the 2L put in it already. But then again, I had a '73 2L that I AX and it looked stock, so I guess it depends how far you want to go with it.

That is cool! I wish more people would enjoy their cars that way. I couldn't, but I wish more people would. Also, did you notice you now have 914 posts!!!!!
