Default Interior trim question

I'm fixing up a 72 914 for my father, currently my guys are disassembling for rust repair/refinishing. We're trying to remove the rear interior trim panel. How do you rmove the handle for the engine cover release as it passes through the panel?Tia.

Yeah, breaking things is bad. Post some pics of the car. Would love to see the project.

No problem. I've got a lot of metal work to do etc. Prolly not worth it but since its for my Dad I don't mind investing the labor. At least I'm getting him into a Porsche. The car has a leaky old carb on it that I will have to do something with. I'm assuming going back to injection will be costly and difficult since the parts are long gone. I do have a parts car with a 1.8 or 2.0 that has dual throat carbs on it. I heard that they aren't suitable for the 1.7...any knowledge on this? The engine in the parts car turns over but po says it has a burnt valve. Who knows, if its not too bad I may fix it / freshen it up. We are also gutting the parts car for a vw vr6 swap.

If you can fidn a 2.0 that would GREAT!!!!! However, I would leave the 1.7 in it over the 1.8 engine. I find the 1.7 to be quicker then the 1.8. I think Matt will agree with me on that as well.
