clutch adjustment

I installed a transmission in my 914-4 but I can not adjust the clutch? Its either too tight and slips in higher gears

or too loose which then will not go into gear. What did I do wrong?

I have a few thoughts. When you installed the clutch arm, pivot ball, was the nylon bearing good? Could the pivot ball be loose?
