That was essentially that way the engine bay was, I just cleaned it out with some cleaners.
I have some pictures of the engine out before putting it in, I'll post those and I'll post some others too.
The tranny was converted to a side shifter from the tail shifter so I'll post some pictures of the conversion pieces and how I handled the different mounting of the rubber boot that covers the linkage at the fire wall. The solution turned out pretty nice.
All the wires were incorporated into the wiring harness and used the existing 914-6 wiring box in the engine compartment for tach, back up lights, oil temp sender, etc.
The tach had to be sent out to Palo Alto Speedometer to have a new board installed so it could understand the new sender signal from the engine and adapt it to the Electormotive crank-fire.
Otherwise there were no suprises.
The gas mileage sucks though, only get 100 miles with a 14 gallon tank if I drive a little aggressively otherwise I can squeeze out about 150-160 by being in 5th gear all the time. I used to get 200 with the previous 2.2. But, what the hay, I have my other car that is for gas milleage anyway.

wow, that is worse mileage than my land rover. if you ever plan on cruising through SF one day, I would love to check out your car and go for a ride! (ex-993 and future 3.2L 914 owner)

I improved my gas mileage. I turns out that I had a stuck needle valve that I didn't notice at first untill it got so bad that there was gas coming out of the top of one of the air intakes. Also, I changed out my idle jets from 60 to 55s. So now I get what I had before with the 2.2L about 200 +-10 miles per tank.
On another note, I got my car dynoed at the Mustang Ranch with the sticking needle valve(because I didn't know what the problem was at the time) and at the rear wheels my car put out 225 hp and 215ft-lbs torque. Nice flat curve starting at 2700 rpm. Probably do better if I had the problem fixed.
I guess the engine does about 255 - 265 hp at the flywheel. Not bad with stock exhaust and factory six heat exchangers. The engine has been tricked out a little but I'm not sure of the details.
