Alittle help...I've got a great set of Flat Dish wheels off of my 83 928s (put 17" Technology Twist rims on it!). I'd love to put these on a 914. After I update the bolt pattern...with the 7X16's fit under the normal fender wells?....What size tire's should fit?...has anybody done this before?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Thanks for the input...another question...is the offset on the 928 wheels push it too far in where spacers may be used or push it too far out? Maybe I need GT flares!
Thanks in advance,
Jim

what's with all these Jims??
I've got a 79 US and an '83 Euro S 928 and I too
am thinking seriously about picking up a nice clean 2.0 914 in the near future.
Jim, as an owner of both cars what is your impression on the 2 different types?
I like the thought of more of a real sports car
with open air to tool around in (914), but there's no way I can give up the 928 and all of it's wonderful attributes.

Well, I love my 83s and would never give it up!...what a cruiser/brute! (also used to own a 66 911...also fun and different).
The 914 is a really different car, tons of fun, easy to work on (pretty basic engine)..and handles like a gocart!. In real cool weather you can roll up the windwos, put on the heat and take off the top!. And like the 928, you don't see many of them so they usually get alot of questions.
You can get a good 914 for not much money and parts for the things won't break the bank like our 928's. If you like those times of MGB's, TR's etc you'd love a 914!
If looking for them, there are a few problem areas for rust...namely battery tray and underneath, inner rockers around the jack tubes...check those areas out specifically.
Jim
p.s. this is my second 914, just got this one to "fix up" with my son (just turned 16)...yes I'm planting the seed to carry on the german love affair!

Jim,
Thanks for the reply, This is what I was afraid of; years ago I owned a Triumph Spitfire and once I got myself shoe-horned into it: what a fun little car to drive. Sounds as if the 914 will be all that and more power and better chassis!
I've been cruising the web about the 914s and I think I am well armed to look for a nice car.
As far as the 928s I'd thought of letting the '79
go but it's sat for as long as 6 months before and
always starts and runs perfect without a complaint.
My wife gets the new car of her choice every 3-4 yrs. and allows me all my toys so it'll be 3 Porsches I think ;-)

Two P car owner also. I just had to get my .928 cents and .914 cents worth.
Best decribed as Yehaa!!! and OH YEA!!!
I have been driving my 74 hopped up 2.0L every other day so my 78 5 speed can take some time off. Actually I just love driving them both. Such a world apart. 928 blast down the freeway and eat up miles road without fail.(think there are wrenches in the back.
914 take the twisty back road mash the gas and turn the wheel. Lots of wrenches in the glove box.

Yes, the Flat disc wheels will fit, but you'd need to run spacers of a minimum of 1 inch, max of 1.5 to stay within the stock fenders.
Nothing wrong with spacers if the correct studs are used.
The 23mm offset rims such as the Fuchs or Phonedials would be a better choice if you can find them at a reasonable price.
