Question Car won't idle correctly?

Hello to everyone,

This is my first post about my 1973 2.4 that I got a few weeks ago. I drove it for several days with a rigged throttle linkage and broken gas pedal. Slightly over a week ago it went into the shop to have the webbers tuned ( 2.0 motor was built into a 2.4 w/ new webbers 7,xxx miles ago by previous owner ). Overall the car is in great shape but it won't idle right. The mechanic has tuned the webbers and replaced the linkage. Thinking it might be the worn out distributor, we bought a new 009, but it hasn't seemed to fix the problem.

Heres what happens:

Car idles fine for a few moments and then jumps up to 3000 plus rpm's. After a minute or two it will lower itself back down, sometimes killing the engine or going back to repeat the process. The mechanics are out of ideas and I'm clueless. Does anybody have any idea whats going on?

Thanks, John

My car did that for a while. You can try to adjust the timing. Maybe also vacuum leaks. That's all I can think of because I don't know much about carbs.
Good luck
