Post 944T brakes

I'm fixing up (or rather someone else is fixing it for me ) a fresh from the barn 914/6. I also have a wrecked 1986 944 turbo from the same barn. I'm thinking of taking the front brakes off of the 944 turbo and installing them on the 914/6 but I don't know if the Mahle gas burner wheels will fit over the 944 brakes, and I'd prefer to keep the Mahle wheels as an option. Obviously the 14" x 5.5" Fuchs alloys that I also have for the 914 would not fit over the turbo brakes. (It's a very well stocked barn!)

Is anyone running the 944T brakes on the 914 with the Mahle gas burner wheels?

I understand that the 1986 944 turbo has a 23 mm offset like the 914, so would the 944T phone dial rims, 7" (front) and 8" (rear) widths should fit the fit with or without flares ? What about the Fuchs , which I also have ?

I've seen pictures of phone dials on 914/6 conversions, but I think they were 7" on both front and rear with a bit of flare. I don't know if they were 15" or 16". I'd go with the 944T Fuch wheels anyway ( depending on offset and backspacing ) since I want the car to at least look period correct if not absolutely original. The phone dials don't look at all right in my opinion. I'd like to avoid flaring the fenders beyond a subtle pulling out of the fenders which seems to have happened on most 914s at this point.
From what I hear , the only 7x16 that will fit is pre 89 fuchs or phone dials with 23.3mm offset. I guess I'd be looking for 4 front wheels from an 86 944 turbo. It just so happens that I have 4 front wheels from an 86 944 turbo (and four rears), but 2 are phone dials and 2 are Fuchs.
or
I could use 52.3mm offset wheels from an 87 or later 944/951 or 55mm offset 911/Boxster wheels with the appropriate spacers
or
The wider 8" rear wheels with the 52.3mm or 55mm offset should fit inside the rear fenders, but I don't know if they would get hung up on the rear suspension and inner fender.

On the other hand If I'm looking at a big paint and bodywork bill, then maybe a GT kit update would not be that much more. The new Automobila Atlanta steel repro flares from their own tooling look interesting.
Of course a 944 turbo suspension arm swap looks interesting too, I wonder if they swap... I wonder what else I should grab from the 944 turbo ?

Back to the question though, Is anyone running the 944T brakes on the 914 with the Mahle gas burner wheels?

Thanks

I think the 914/6 strut has 3" spacing for the calipers and the 944 calipers are 3.5" spacing so that will be a problem unless you switch the struts to later 911 ones.

Hmm.. I guess I'll have to look and see what else is in the barn. Of course the 944 turbo's struts are there, but they probably wouldn't work.. There are a pair of mystery struts there, but I think they are just old 914/6 struts.

914/6 struts are the same as early 911 struts so thats the problem fitting new calipers. Switch to newer 911 struts to get the correct 3.5" bolts spacing to fit the 944T calipers.

The 944T calipers don't have 3,5" bolt spacing (it's a little more), but you can have them redrilled to 3,5" (preferably have the old mounting holes welded up first)
I'm not sure they'd fit your 15" wheel though...
(I have mine on 16x7 fuchs)

cheers,

Jeroen
