Post value question

im a newbie to these cars, but not to cars. im not sure on the fixing value, but anyway, my question. i have found a 914 1.8 not sure if it is a 914/6 or not. anyway, original everything, guy has had it for 16 years and he is a part of the pca. he says the fuel injectors are starting to leak. he says he wants to replace the injectors and rings, he says that he will sell it to me for 5000 if he does the work, less if he doesnt. not sure how much less though. says he has some carbs and intake stuff to throw in when buying the car. car has 87,xxx miles on it. please help me out, im crazy about this car.

Hi newbie914,

If it is a 1.8 - then it is a 4 cyl in the later years.. Given the price of 914's - and a BIG CONDITION - IF there is no rust (suspension console, longtiduts, battery arear, engine bay, front trunk, etc..) , then $5,000 is towards the top end of the price with those amount of miles.. Frankly - I don't really care if the owner is a PCA member or not - it has nothing to do with the condition of the car, nor a track record on his ownership. PCA Adverts in PANO are sort of silly, IMNSHO...

So - if he doesn't do the work, how much is he willing to sell it to you for?..

Anyway - please post back about the condition that you see - and DRIVE the car before your purchase!!!

Best to you!!!

Is it a 74 or 75 1.8 car? What packages does it have? Sport (sway bars, konis) Apperance ( Fuchs, center console, chrome bumpers).
The 1.8l cars are less valuable than the 2.0L cars unless its been sixed.
Rust is the big issue with these cars!!! Look at and under the battery tray. Look under the rockers for rust and jackposts.
A sweet 1.8 car is worth about $5k,-74 or 75 with the
FI on it. Knock off $500 if its got carbs. Orginality on 1.8 cars is what is important because they aren't fast.
If you look around you can find nice 74,75,76 2.0L cars for $5 to 6K. These are much faster cars (about 20hp more) and the prices on these is rising faster.

I personally think $5000 is way to high for a 1.8. hold your money and buy a 2.0. You won't regret it later.

well, the reason why i want this car is that it is very original. he said that he well sell it to me for 4000 if he doesnt do the work. i havent driven it yet, and wont buy it before i do. he has 1 911 sc for sell, but i cant afford it and he is working on two others right now(911 sc's) so, im assuming he knows what he is doing. either way, i still want the car. he is also throwing in a set of aftermarket carbs.

Injectors are about $70 bucks each I think. You will need those. I DO NOT recommend carbs!! If the injection works, leave it alone.
Sounds like you are set on buying the car.Hope you enjoy it as much as I had enjoyed mine.
