Post Distributor Driveshaft question

When I take out the distributor and the driveshaft, how am I going to be able to place it inside again at the correct location? The shaft can easily be put onto the wrong teeth, and the distributor has basically two postions following that right? Someone help please.

Dude you can make Avatars do that and you can't put a distributor back in???? OK. here ya go the two lugs are actually off set a little. this must match the offset of the drive inside the hole. If you rotated the motor without the distributor Whack yourself with the sitck again. Then line up #1 cylinder to top dead center and then match the rotor to where the cap terminal is for #1 cylinder. put the clamp onto the bolt and you should be ballpark. You will have to time it after you put my carbs on it.
