Default How much was a 914 NEW?

We don't have a 914 and my wife just asked me how much were they new? I have no clue. She is off the top of head guessing about 15K.

In 1970 the base price was approx $3700 in 1970 dollars. Most 1.7's were about 4K. The 73 2.0 was about 5K, real 6's were over 6K. When you drive one now people think they're worth 40 or 50K if they're a nice one... they don't have CLUE...

Please provide names of those who think they're worth 40K. Have I got a deal for them!

I remember in 1974 walking the dealer's showroom here in Calgary and seeing one for $14,000 CAD at the time.......FWIW......

Martin, Don't you think you ought to do the right thing and bring back all of those things you didn't get charged for?

Thank-you very much for the replies. I just called her and relayed the answers, she was pleased. On a side note, just thought I would tell you guys that it was a guy here in La. in a 914 that got me started auto-crossing back in the mid 90's, that was a great lil car he had!

My dad's "6" was $6100... just a couple hundred less than a 911T.

15K in 1970 would have bought you a 911S Targa, all options, and still have a few bucks left over.

Suprisingly, if kept original, that 911S would bring in $50K... The 914-6? maybe mid 20s. A "4"? maybe mid teens.

I recall the 1973 cars (1.7 and 2.0 liter) hovered around $5000 in those days.

It is funny how these cars haven't gone down in value. They where a nice little investment! That is why everyone should own a 914!!!!!! Come on Bob, come to the dark side!

Except for inflation. Probably won't decrease from the amounts that any of us have paid or will pay.

In the Porsche German Salesmans handbook of August 74 they compared the

VW-Porsche 1.8 (15,750 DM) and the VW-Porsche 2.0 (16,878 DM) to other cars.

they wern't cheap as, for example, the VW scirocco was 12,035 Dm at this time.

Keep in mind that the exchange rate in the early 1970s was about 3 DMs to the dollar.

I had the original bill of sale for my 74 2.0l with most options. Purchase price was only $5750. There may have been a trade in but I don't know and it is not reflected on the paperwork.
