Default 914-6 Paint Color

Is there a way to determine the original paint color off of the VIN number?

Thanks
Chris

I don't believe so, but I believe sixes still have the Karman plate in the drivers door jamb. That has the paint code on it.

Nope.

But if you want to waste $100 or more, send for your car's Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. That will have the original factory color info.

this may help you... lists all the paints and interiors from different years. and unless someone stripped it down completely to re-paint... look under things. you might be able to find a patch of original paint. my personal favorite place to look is under the headlight assembly. good luck!

Thanks guys I will take a look and see if i can find the paint code on it or when we begin disassembly maybe we will find the true color. I figure if we are going to paint it, might as well make it back to original. Will post pics as we tear it apart.

My favorite place to look is if you slide the seat forward and look under there! Not many people think to paint back there unless they are really serious! Or if the car still has undercoating on it peal off a little and look under there as well. Actually, while your at it just take off all the undercoating!!!

Look on the drivers door for this tag.

AmondC, if you post the VIN or PM to me I can check and see if the info is available from Porsche Cars North America Database.
