75 914
A friend is selling his 75-914 1.8 51,000 orig miles. No rust anywhere all original and in great shape. Thinking of buying it and autoxing it in the spring. Am i nuts? i feel a slippery slope comming on.

Drive it and you'll buy it. They handle like little go carts! Next thing you'll want to do then is take out that 4-banger and put a 6 in it....can you say 914-6 with a 3.2L in it!

I have both...911 is a blast to drive and so is the 914. I ended up upgrading the brakes on the 914..put on a 911 front end (5-lug), upgraded the rear suspension to 914-6, put boxster 16X7" rims on it, front and rear sway bars...and it handles like a dream. I did get tired of the peppy but anemic 1.8l 4-banger. So I've found myself a nice low mileage 3.2l six with full FI and I'm stuffing that in there (actually, fits very nicely) over the winter and spring. The look out..I'll have a rocket!

Good approach qball! After some autoxing you'll know what you want to do from there.
Don't sweat the big bumpers. Talk about an EZ upgrade. There's also some emissions junk to deal with on the '75, but as far as I'm concerned, the condition of the car (especially rust) is what matters. It's much easier to swap bumpers on a 75-76 than repair a bad hell-hole on a 73 2.0.
