Default what's a 70 914/6 worth?

It's the yellow one in rennlist classifieds. Is that a fair price he's asking?

I'm thinking of buying it for my son (and me!)

I could only access the little picture on the page but it doesn't have the vinyl sails which all 6's had- the extra cost appearance option on the 4's. Also, all factory 6's had carbs, not FI. Seems high priced to me. For that you should get a very nice original appearance driver. But truely rust free is the most important thing...

Vinly sails? what's that...

If you cut and paste the url for the pics, you can see them. In two of the pics are the carbeurators.

Try looking at the pics and see what you think...

Black vinyl on the sides of the rollbar- not body colour like in the picture. Rust under the vinyl is common at the bottom and they could have been removed with a repair, as AFAIK, all USA 6's originally had the apperarance group with vinyl on the sides of the rollbar. While I'm no fan of vinyl roofs on cars, I think 914s looked better with it and even most 4s had it. Wish I still had my 6 (and so do my two boys!) but you can't keep everything.... even though my wife must think sometimes I do...

dang..i'd look and comment but the "classifieds" tag has disappeared on my screen. Help area says if you are running pop-up blockers or whatever it masks it...i turn it off and it still doesn't come up. Can someone post the url to the direct ad?

Could only get one of the picture links to work. I'd ask about the engine, what size, vintage, etc and if it's the original case as 914-6 cases were unique to the car because of the engine number stamp location. Maybe it's not important to you but original engine makes it worth more. Again, they didnt' have FI so I'll bet the engine isn't original. If it is really rust free, probably not worth more than 10-12 tops IMHO.

Ok..I was able to get to this after figuring out how to stop my ad blocker for this site. First, this car is not fuel injected as the ad says...3 pics show the carbs on this car. Overall, from pics...this car looks pretty good. A pristin original 914-6 will cost you in the 25k range. An average to "needs alot of work" original 914-6 will get 10k to 15k easy. This one looks to be better then "needs alot of work". I'd say 15k would be a great buy.

Now, if you want the low down on this car I'd go over to the www.914club.com forum and ask Zois (stated as the previous owner) himself. He posts there alot. Also, if you are not near the car ask for one of the club members to go check it out for you..they are always more then happy to do that and there are several texas posters over there.

If that is an original engine (even if modified) this would be a pretty good deal by the pics. Heck, a 914-4 converted to a 6 usually brings in around 15k.

Jim - thanks for the help! Houston's not far from me - 4 hour drive - so I might just take a trip up there and see it for myself.

There is also one item that appears to be non-original: the bulkhead between the engine and trunk appears to be covered in some sort of heat or sound insulation. I don't think that is original. Those are weber carbs with what appears to me to be the idle return disconnected. The dash is in need of recovering. To do it correctly requires intense work unless the windshield is removed. (don't ask me how I know). The sails are available in a kit form and an easy fix; I also prefer them on.

I'd say it's a $12k six. It will need sail panels and interior work. The door pockets are missing. The seat pads are recovered in some sort of smooth vinyl. The "screws" in the door panels would worry me... there's one thing to screw them into "metal". The carbs have K&N Watersheds so the original air filter is missing. If it has a sound deadening pad that's not original on a six. If I recall this car... it has a quick paint job on it. That's the main reason I would say $12k tops. A real six is a nice car to have and sort out. Values are going up and it's a "very" rare speciman. I just sold mine with an "Excellent" restoration for $18k so... 12k plus misc. fixes and a 5-6k paint job???
