Default Photos of the Teener at Speed Fest - Cal Speedway

Here are some photos of my time trial competition at California Speedway. The event was put on by PCA Zone 8, and they did a fantastic job! Very organized, everything ran on time. Amazing when you consider the number of cars at the event, 120+.

My car is a '71 chassis with a '76 2.0 liter engine and trans. Minor modifications to the suspension to lower and stiffen. BMW 320 brakes up front, Kuhmo Victoracers in 205 width. Otherwise stock.

My best time was 2:15.83 - not fast, but pretty good considering only 90 hp! The car tops out at about 115 on the oval, whcih is where I lose a lot of time. The car is excellent in the infield, though. Also very speedy in the rain, didn't have to slow much at all.

Enjoy!

Zipping through the infield. Note the wet track...headlights are on so cars in front can see me coming

Very nice car
My car is sort of "tracked". What would it take to get it on the track to do a few laps?

Here you can see me catching up to and overtaking the silver 911. I could do this only in the rain, where I can carry great speed from the previous corner. The 911s had to slow way down.

Thanks to my son Tommy for his great photography!

First, make it safe: good brakes, strong suspension, no rust, good seat and harness.

Then, learn to drive it well. Go to a karting school, a racing program like Skip Barber, or even your local PCA autocrosses and driver's ed days.

After you have all that taken care of, then make the car faster, limited only by your budget.

I see many drivers worrying about making the car really fast before they know how to drive it. My philosophy is, wait until the car is holding you back.

Very well, I'll get on that. I want to drive it like it was meant to.

To be honest, I think it's more like "Earl Scheib Red." It was like this when I bought it...pretty cheesy paint job, really, but I liked the car because it was straight and clean and had a good suspension setup.

BTW, Martin, I credit you with inspiration for the interior work my son and I have done on the car! Seeing your long thread about the mods you've done got us looking at our ugly sound deadening tar stuff...

I'll be posting a thread soon with pictures of our effort.
