Has anyone here installed a Subaru engine in the 914? I currently have an '88 951. However, my mother-in-law has a '76 914 1.8 that is currently in long-term storage due to engine/smog problems (Ca.). As far as I know, the '76 still has to be smogged. Anyway, I have this wild hair about putting a WRX STI engine and transaxle into the 914. I'm no stranger to engine swaps, and I have a full shop with welding and fabrication equipment. I just wondered if anyone has already done one, and how it came out. Pros, cons, and problems they encountered.

I know some people are in the process of doing this. Go to www.914club.com. That board is much more active in 914's and they can direct you to the people doing WRX swaps.

If you do the swap I'd be interested in what you might want for the old engine. I'm assuming it runs ok, just wouldn't pass smog check.
