Default WHere does one get a 914/6 or 4

WHere do you go look for 914's. I was at willow this weekend and it appears to be a really good track car. I drove my TT on the track and I dont want to waste the car due to my stupidity. So the 914 seems like a much better choice and
the ones I saw today are fast!! How much would a rolling chasis be and how much for a period 6 cyclinder motor? what motors fit a 914 if I dont find a 914/6? and is it difficult to upgrade a 4 to a 6??
I looked in autotrader and they only go back to 84.
I appreciate the help in advance and I am now kicking for selling my 70 914 back in 87!!

lots of good questions, to make this a little brief, The best thing to look for is a rustfree chassis. Otherwise all motors up to 98 can be fitted( NA easier than turbo).....look in your areas paper and local pca chapter website, original sixes are getting hard to find, a daily driver rustfree will go probably in the 15K range, 5-7 for the 4s..........I like the sixes, they always keep their value, and are a ton of fun to drive even with a stock 2 liter..........good hunting

Por9146 thanks I appreciate it. I am used to going online and
just finding what I am looking for. The 914 looks to be a harder find
Heck you can find ferrari 360's and 355's easier ( at least in my experience)
But after seeing the 914 on the track on Sunday i was impressed.
I think finding a rust free body and mating it to a good 6 motor would be a great fun project! so even a varioram will fit! I will have to check rules on modern motor or older motors for track use

If you're planning on putting a BIG motor in, plan also on some significant chassis stiffening in the back!! I think several people makes kits that replicate the factory GT parts. Yes, 914's are great fun, from one who's been driving the same one for 33 years...

Most 914 guys/gals hang out at
www.914club.com

Last year at this time there were many sixes for sale but its dry this year.
Look at the classifieds there at the site above. Hang out, post your question. There are also 914 race cars in Panorama classifieds.
These cars are great fun plus you can do your own work.
Happy hunting.

Put in anything for the VIN. It can be changed later when you DO find a 914.

I just tried Collector Car Trader (on line) and there are several 914/6s for sale. Some look like fine rust free examples. That's the ticket in any 914. Good luck.

Like those above, www.914club.com is a great site. Also visit forums.pelicanparts.com they are also extremely active in the 914 space.

I wouldn't mind considering one in the next couple years if the price is right... I think I'll start looking at the 914 Club as well (I've heard about it before from you guys, as well).

Jim... you have a nice variety, don't you! Get a 944 and complete the lineup May I personally recommend a Turbo? You won't regret it, I promise!

Kevin, thanks...I do enjoy the lineup! I like to think of it as having 1 front engined, 1 mid-engined and 1 rear engined....one of each engine configuration!

I do like the water cooled porsches though...the 928 is really an unbelievable car! Those 944's..they sure are nimble!

Having driven a turbo for awhile I would have to second kevins opinion. 150 is an addicting speed.

I just sold my 914 and I am going to miss it. They are a total blast to drive. Although they don't stop on a dime they sure do turn on one.

I have to agree with Jim that the 928 is a beautiful driving car. I had a euro 5.0 liter for a while and it was great until it started being plagued by electrical problems. Would definitely consider a GTS if one came up for a reasonable price with low miles.

OldGuy,

Try driving from ST Gallen Switzerland to Holland averaging 155mph. You will never want to drive slow again. Came back to the states and found myself doing 100mph before leaving the on ramps, very tough to slow back to US speed limits and driving habits after driving full out for a month or two.
