Why a 914?

Hi, I already have one old Porsche car (it's the big fat heavy one).
I want to get another that is more of a real sports car. I find myself having no interest in any other models than the 914. I think a big part is the targa top, but how well would a person over six feet tall fit in one?
I alos realize that the engines may not put out the huge horsepower numbers, but what type of performance can I expect? Also how much is there to adding reliable performance boosts to the engines?
thanks

You'll have a blast in a 914....very different from the 928 (I have an 83s). My 914 may not have the power but it sure handles like a gocart...not much can compare when you have it in the twisties.
The type IV engine is pretty easy to work on and there are several expert shops around that can really pull the HP out of that engine and keep it reliable...or you could just transplant a 3.0 or 3.2 911 engine in it and hold on for dear life.
Fun cars!
you can also check out this forum: forums.pelican.com it get's alot of traffic also when it comes to 914's.

As you'll note from my sig, I've had my first car, a 914, since new. Still love driving as do my kids (now 17 and 20). A blast to drive- the Elise is a new 914- it weights under 2000lbs and is an autocross winner many times over... sure, the GT3 has a lot more power, but the 914 is still a great weekend escape. And it has plenty of interior space for over 6' drivers... find a good one and you'll love it- just don't get a rust bucket...

The 914 is a blast to drive! While it looks small on the outside, it's really well designed to hold people and their stuff. I know several tall 914 owners. This car isn't about stop light to stop light performance though. It can be made to hold it's own with the right amount of cash down or you can just enjoy what it really does well... turn. Jake Raby can build you a sweet 2.4L engine that'll make you smile or for a bit more money (about a much as a 928 costs) you can put in a nice 3.0+ six that'll really rock.

Good luck,

I am 6' 2" and fit in my 914 no problem. Swapping in a 3.0/3.2/3/6 will make a huge difference in performance, but you also need to change a bunch of other stuff as well (like bigger brakes, stiffer suspension). With anything over a 3.0, you will also probably want bigger tires in the rear (you can fit a 225 in the front, but only a 205 in the rear). If I were to do a conversion today, I would do the 3.6, as the delta between engine prices is pretty small.
