Default towing a 914?

I'm considering buying a 914 that is about 150 miles away. Even though it runs and would probably make the trip, I might prefer having the chance to at least replace all the fluids before driving it much (it has been sitting for a while, I think). I have a ford explorer and was wondering what my towing options might be. Being rear wheel drive, is a towing dolly one possibility? Any advice appreciated...

Well ideally a trailer comes to mind. I think you can use a two dolly somehow. Maybe if you dolly the rear wheels? I'm not sure how that's done.

I've used a homemade/modified towbar, bolted to the holes of the removed fromt bumper. (If, big if, the bumper mount area is not rusted.) Tows very easily, hardly noticable. If you make your own towbar, you'll have it to go get another

I say use a trailer - the problem with a-frames and dollys is that the car (or half of it) is still doing the milage.

Be kind to the car and carry it home.

Should someone mention a thorough inspection for rust before attempting to tow? I have a friend who runs a 914 bone yard and he frequently attempts to tow one and has something or half of it fall off. Of course the one you are looking it must be in much better shape.

Thanks for the good advice from everyone. As providence would have it, the deal fell through. On the very day that the deal fell through I found a local (10 miles) 1.8 '74 in great condition that I'm confident I can drive to it's new home. Picking it up tonight, my first 914 [even though have been owning/fixing cars for 30 years]. Strange mix of excitement and dread, with excitement winning out for now...
