Need Information on Popolopolus 911 4-cylinder Motor
Does anyone know anything about the Dean Popolopolus motor? Dean originally cut 2 cylinders off a 911 motor and built it into a 4 cylinder by cutting the cams and crank. Now, he custom casts 4 cylinder long blocks and puts in custom billet cams and crank. I read about it on Parts Obsolete's website and have spoken to a few people who have heard of it. Any information on this would be great.
Thanks,
Gordon

Gordon,
Excellence Magazine #121, August 2003 has a good article 'Four From Six' about the Popolopolus 4 cylinder engine. If you don't have the magazine I can send you the article as PDF.

Dieter,
I (thankfully) have the issue and my thanks to you for pointing it out. I am considering this engine for my Beck 550 Spyder and wanted more information. Next, I want to find a sound byte... ;-)
Thanks,
Gordon

My interest in the "Polo" motor is that I'm building a 550 Spyder replica. I have a 94 3.6 Turbo and thought I would make the 550 Spyder into a miniature turbo and use all Porsche parts for the car: Boxter brakes and A-arms for the front and 914 semi trailing arms for the rear, a 901/915 transmisison, Porsche guages, this "Polo" motor and a small turbo charger. I was going with this motor, because it should sound very, very nice with a simple exhaust. The original motor described in the Excellence article had a weird firing order (120/240), whereas the current design is 180/180, which should make the sound very much like... like nothing so far?
