My first 912

My first 912
A former TR6 restorer, my new project is the '68 Targa. Cursory inspection shows little to no body rust other then the floor pan, the extent is still be be determined.
Looks like an easy restore, if such a thing exists. I remember saying that about the TR which took 10 years to bring back to life.
More Pictures to follow when I get her home.
Oh, the VW bus in the background is also a possibility....

Need estimate of value
I need your collective help to set a market value on the car as it sits. This estimate is for DMV purposes.
The car was parked in the 90's where it now sits.
Minimal needs to make it pretty and back on the road.
Now I am not looking for the cost to restore, just the value of the car as it sits to a reasonable buyer.
Thanks

- Full interior, including dash top.
- Paint job
- Top repair
- All rubber needs replacing
- Breaks, including flexible lines and perhaps rigid tubing, and minimally a rebuilt master cylinder. Discs, caliper repair, pads.
- Tires,
- new chrome
- Engine condition unknown, so at the minimum a tear down, inspection and replacement of bearings etc.
- Transmission condition unknown
- Carb rebuild
- repaint of misc engine and other sheet metal
- New clutch and pressure plate
- suspension components.
- New/rebuilt generator and regulator.
- Consideration for other surprises
Now I am not looking for the cost to restore, just the value of the car as it sits to a reasonable buyer.
Thanks

given the current market --- with correct wheels, engine, transmission, body panels in decent shape, wooden steering wheel, etc, etc. wouldnt that car as is potentially sell for $15K i have seen basket cases - or more of basket cases than that - selling for not much less. there is a lot of value in that car as parts -- or a $30,000 + restoration liability (including the value of your time) to make it a nice car again.

Thank you for your honest appraisal. Having restored an older car, I am aware of the potential costs to bring them back to original, or near so. This car is a gift to me, so my initial investment is $0. As such there is no state sales taxes involved. All there is is the license fee. At $15,000 that is minimal change and allows me to set a value before restoration for tax purposes.
The car is in remarkable condition considering how long it sat outside. I know the owner, who did track the car before it was parked due to a failed generator. He said it drove well when last he drove it in the '90s.
$30,000 to restore, is the upper limit I put on what is needed to once again make the car an eye to behold, probably $20,000 (or so I wish). Hopefully the engine is fine, or only needs minimal parts, and the transmission is ok. The body is ding and major rust free. But as I know, a thousand here and a two thousand there soon becomes real money.
I'll know more when I get her home next week and follow up with pictures
Thanks again for your help.
