Default WTB: 901 5 Speed

I thought I would post this here instead of the marketplace hoping it wouldn't get lost. I have a 1966 912 that the cardex shows was sold in Germany with a 5 speed. It currently has a 4 speed but other than that, no rust and the engine numbers match so I'm looking for a 5 speed 901 transmission in my quest to get her back into factory trim.

My question for the gurus is this; can I rebuild the 4 speed and add the 5th gear? I assume they share the same case but beyond that, I don't know if it's possible. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

Yes you can convert to 5spd. You will need a 5spd mainshaft, a 5spd 1st gear with reverse idler, a 1/R op sleeve and a different 3rd and 4th gear. Your existing 4th will become your 5th.

That's great news, now I have to figure out ratios and whether I can do it myself or hire it done. I'll swing by Patrick Motorsports in the near future and see what they have to say. Thanks for the info.
