Default 1968 912 Oil Tank Breather Hose Options?

Hello everyone. I've been a lurker for a while here, and thanks to all of you, I learned quite a bit about 912s here, before I purchased my first one. I got a MY '68 912 in blutorange, and it's been a ton of fun.

In any event, I have a quick question for my fellow '68 912 owners. What is the best way to deal with the oil can breather hose? My car currently has a rather long hose with a filter at the end. The hose basically drops down to the engine pan. I've done some research and have seen the following options used on 912s:

1. Long hose which drops to the floor (like mine).
2. Filter mounted directly to the end of the oil tank breather opening.
3. Hose which connects to the top of the passenger side carburetor.

I seem to recall that the preferred approach for the '68 model is option 3. Could someone confirm whether this is best approach for my car? As an FYI, I am currently running Weber carbs on the car...

I'll make sure to post pictures soon. Thanks again!

Go with #3. A filter attached will just get saturated with oil over time and constantly drop oil onto the tin. Messy, messy.

Ultra 912,

After doing some digging, it seems that the setup you recommended not only provides positive crankshaft ventilation, but also reduces emissions (or at least that was the design intent)...

Thanks very much for your feedback.

Do you plug off the CISSP-ISSMP exams old filter?
