Default Newbie Oil Check question

I've been searching all night and I can't find the answer. Here goes, When checking the oil. Do you pull the dipstick out of the smaller dipstick tube/holder clean off reinsert back into the smaller dipstick tube/holder pull out and check? Or do you pull the dipstick out of smaller dipstick tube/holder clean off and insert into the larger tube pull out and check?

Basically, Is oil level sampled from the smaller tube or the larger tube?

One is the oil fill tube, the other the check tube.

Not to be mean, but I haven't seen a 912 for 35 years, took three seconds to google to insure I was correct and reported here.

Please also read up on the proper procedure for the oil level check.

Point me to the direction that labeled the dipstick holder the check tube.

Where do you sample the oil from the oil fill tube or the dipstick holder?

Check the oil from the tube where the stick is located. Engine off, allow time for oil to settle, pull and wipe stick, insert, remove and read it.

The tube is only about a 1/4 " in diameter. Oil filler is to fill, not check it.
