69 912 - street & Track car
#16
Found a picture of the engine that is going back in right now. It has some modifications from stock.. alternator change, oil change , will have a deep oil sump, oil cooler in the wheel well. new forged crank in the engine, a bit hotter cams, pistons, etc, etc, never ending list of etc I think the red cowl will add about 5mph on the straights... don't you?
I also got a new toy - car trailer - last summer when my engine starting making "THE NOISE" .. i said .. its time to get a trailer .. earlier in the summer i drove the 240 mile round trip to the track and tracked the car for two days.. she was a trooper.. but i pushed my luck .. and probably made some mistakes.. live and learn right.. this summer at least we will have better storage and easier time getting the car to and from events that are farther away.

the side mirrors on the 912 are from early 70's 911.. they are pretty functional really.. i do not think they were moved from the original spot.. but i do not have all that much history on the car so who knows.. for looks though my buddies 66 912 with the durant mirrors makes me jealous every time.
by the way - that red car - has an engine rebuilt by vic skirmantz ( not sure on the spelling) he is somewhat of an engine rebuilding legend. i know you are not going to believe this but that red 912 is supposedly pushing north of 160HP. if you are on the 912registry they profiled that car in a recent magazine. worth reading.

That trim looks nice Jaime. Dave is that the motor in your 912 and if so I am thoroughly jealous. That is my goal. A hotrod 2.0 / 2.2 when I can afford it. My Andial 1600 should fetch about 5K but I'm not sure if I should sell it. I need a plug and play but I don't have 8-10K to achieve that.......as of yet! I WILL find a way.

Hi Ultra .. that is the original motor for the car. by the time all is said and done i will probably have a bit under what you listed as a budget for a motor .. but still a lot tied up in it.. i am pretty anxious to get news from the shop that it is running again. i'll post pictures and video .. hopefully in the next week or so.

Burning Brakes
A minor point, but upgrading the brakes on a 912 is a complete waste of money. The 912 is so light there is no need for more than stock brakes and pads. I have a full-on dedicated 912 racecar, and racing at High Plains Raceway I routinely hit 105 mph at the end of the first straightaway, stand on the brakes just short of lockup, downshift from 5th to 4th, and accelerate out through a sharp 45-degree corner at ~60 mph. Absolutely no problem with stock brakes and pads and DOT tires. I doubt there is much that would happen on the highway more demanding than that.

then again, if you have a '69 .. and you have to be doing the brakes anyway. the 911's are a direct fit .. and actually cheaper as i recall for the vented rotors than the solid rotors. strange but true.. seemed like an interesting option so i grabbed it. i am sure either way the car will stop as intended. if we werent into wasting money we would all be on the miata forum.
