Meet Bleu, my 1967 912.
Took a few days, but here she is. Followed me home last Friday. A pretty solid starting point for some care and loving...
It's a repaint, a pretty nice one. Original colour is Polo Red, which I will return it to some day. But there's other more pressing details. Like the insides...
And just because, a shot with its brother from another mother...
Headlights will be installed shortly, and those Italian flag mirrors will be replaced with a single driver's side Durant. Still on the fence about wheels. I have a few sets that would be "right".
Just got off the phone with Dave at TRE. The harness bar and Appbiz lightweight perlon should be shipping to me sometime next week. More to follow.
Just talked to Dave at TRE this morning. My carpets and roll bar ship tomorrow. Too bad they are saying mixed snow and rain this weekend. I've got to clean out my garage so that I can get this baby indoors for the winter.
I really like the early cars like this! What a great project this will be! Fun Fun!
Hope you keep the '60s look!
Going for the Sport Purposes approach. No wider flares. Not much special in the way of bodywork. Just a little more power, better gearing, and add lightness.
Just got the roll bar and carpets today. Was messing around with the car yesterday and I am going to have to rebuild the pedals before doing anything else. The bushings are totally shot. But it is supposed to snow on Friday, so all that means is that it is 912 project season instead of 912 driving season...
I have a '66 912 that we picked up in July. Looks to be in similar condition, maybe a little bit better. What are you thinking of in the way of power upgrades?? My plan over the winter is to do the top end with rebuilt Solex's. 86mm P&C and not go into the case, unless something presents itself during the top end work.
I have spent the summer and fall re-working the suspension and brakes 100%. All the rubber was perished and needed it.
I've got a '73 2.0l 914 Type IV I am planning to install. It's fairly fresh with Euro P&Cs, a Web cam designed for carbs and Weber 44 IDFs. Still trying to decide it I want to convert it to an upright fan conversion during the install. That will be a decision for some cold Winter night.
I will also be putting in a short ratio 5spd. It currently has a 4spd in it. My big dilemma is old versus new. I've got a 6:29 CWP set along with a factory ZF LSD for it. By the same token, shouldn't the company car have company parts in it? Why not make full use of my facilities and put my own LSD in thing. Either way it will get a mix of Guard and OEM gearsets unless I can get off my **** and widen my selection of 901 gears that we make. Right now we're only doing the Airport ratios and I'm going to be looking at something taller than S for 5th...
Bump. After being stalled for a few months, I put a little time into the car and paid a former coworker to spend a little bit more on it. Carpets and insulation are stripped. Pedals replace. Cage is loosely mounted but needs lower mounts welded to the chassis. Going to finally get temp tags and a vin verification tomorrow and drive it to work since it is supposed to be 60 out.
I've got the camera here at work. I'll snap a couple of pics and post them for documentation. And then see if I can't get the carpets installed since it is now indoors. Then it is time to order seats and harnesses...
