Engine numbers on older 4-cylinders..
Greetings,
My 912 has a different engine in it than I thought. Not to worry, I don't think its a VW engine but it is not the original according to another poster. Does anyone know where engine numbers can be found or what charateristics each 356 motor had so I can figure out exactly which I have.
Thanks,
Frank

Hello
I know where to find them but have problems on descriping.
You will find the engine# under the alternator base, the engine type# behind the base and the negine production number from the case on each from the 3 case parts.
912 normaly had 616/36, 616/38 and finally 616/40 engine type#. However the 616/36 was also used in the last 356.
